About Pure

Our Story

The world’s most remarkable
coffee deserves a home.

Pure Kopi Luwak was founded by Roger Abbott — a data scientist and lifelong coffee obsessive who first encountered wild kopi luwak on a trip through Java in 2019. One cup changed everything.

A cup that stopped him in his tracks.

Roger had drunk coffee every morning for twenty years. He had worked his way through single-origins from Ethiopia to Colombia, invested in grinders and scales, dialled in temperature to the degree. He thought he knew coffee.

Then a farmer in the hills above Bandung handed him a small cup of wild kopi luwak and everything he knew stopped mattering. No bitterness. No acidity. Just an extraordinary depth of flavour — earthy, lightly sweet, impossibly smooth — that had been processed not by machinery or chemistry, but by nature itself.

He spent the rest of that trip in the rainforest, learning. Within a year, Pure was born.

Wild, not farmed. Always.

The kopi luwak industry has a dark side: most of what is sold commercially comes from caged civets — animals kept in small enclosures and force-fed coffee cherries. The result is a product that carries the name but none of the quality, and none of the ethics.

Pure is different. We work exclusively with a family-run operation that has been ethically collecting wild kopi luwak in Java’s protected rainforests for over two decades. The civets roam freely, eating only the ripest cherries they choose for themselves. The beans are collected from the forest floor, hand-sorted, washed, sun-dried, and roasted in small batches.

Every batch is traceable to source. Every batch is independently tested — zero pesticide residues, confirmed. This is the only way we operate.

What the science says.

Wild kopi luwak is measurably different from any other coffee. The natural fermentation during digestion breaks down the proteins responsible for bitterness, reduces caffeine by roughly half, and produces elevated levels of inositol (linked to sharper cognitive function) and malic acid (which supports sustained, crash-free energy via the Krebs cycle).

The result: a cup that is smoother, gentler, and more complex — and a body that feels the difference.

“Most people who try Pure for the first time say the same thing: I did not know coffee could taste like this. That reaction never gets old.”
